About the Work
Do I need to know anything about Kociewie
or Polish embroidery to appreciate the work? No. You don't need a PhD, a Polish passport, or a grandmother who stitched flowers.
My starting point is usually a piece of traditional Kociewian embroidery, but the final work is abstract. Thick lines. Gold dots. High contrast. Heavy textures. Symmetrical compositions that sit comfortably on a modern wall.
You don't need to know Kociewie. You just need to know what it feels like to carry something forward, or to be caught between where you came from and where you're going. If that resonates, we're already speaking the same language.
Will this look out of place in my minimalist or modern interior? The opposite. My work is designed for contemporary spaces, with symmetrical compositions and controlled palette. Several pieces were made specifically with minimal interiors in mind.
If your walls are white and your furniture is clean-lined, these works won’t fight the room. They’ll anchor it.
How is this different from generic AI generated abstract works on Etsy or Saatchi Art?Most abstract art floating around online has no roots. It's decorative wallpaper with a price tag. My work sits at the intersection of heritage and contemporary practice.
Every composition starts with traditional Kociewian floral motifs — then I deconstruct them. Knotted lines, heavy impasto textures, hand-embroidered elements broken apart and reassembled. The result is rooted but not sentimental. Decorative but not decoration.
Art historians have placed this practice alongside artists like Grayson Perry and Jaune Quick-to-See Smith — people who take folk traditions and give them a contemporary, critical voice. That's not something an Etsy algorithm generates.
This looks intense. Do you make anything "lighter" or calmer?Fair question. Not all my work screams. Some pieces are much more meditative. Soft textures, muted palettes, gold leaf that catches the light. Others are raw and heavy. The range is as varied as the emotions that I’m trying to process. If you're looking for a specific mood, eg. calm, energising, contemplative, please tell me. I can guide you to the right piece, or we can discuss a commission tailored to your space and emotional brief.
