Polish folk heritage meets abstract tension
Contemporary paintings rooted in Kociewian folk tradition – deconstructed, reassembled, and charged with the tension of now.
About the works
Between grandmother's embroidery and modern anxiety. Peter Gil deconstructs traditional Kociewian folk patterns and rebuilds them with contemporary tension – knotted lines, heavy textures, colors that feel like now. Each piece is a dialogue between where we come from and what we're becoming.
About the artist
Peter Gil is a multidisciplinary artist born in picturesque Kociewie region of northern Poland, EU.
Exploring themes of relationships, local and regional traditions, modern societal dynamics and the place of an individual within it.
Complexity of reality is synthesised through Gil’s works, as symmetrical compositions invite the viewers for an introspective and open dialogue.
“In my opinion, art should encourage conversation — through symbols and patterns, artworks can quite literally bridge the past with the present.
Each and all of us poses unique perspectives providing a singular set of emotions and desires.
An artwork created honestly, in response to one’s unique experiences feels both authentic and refreshingly new.”
